SOKOLOW LEGACY WORKSHOPS
The Sokolow legacy workshops are a dance history lesson supported by actual practice within the choreography, striking the perfect balance between historical context and technical performance. They are designed to enhance standard curriculum or used as a stand alone unit of study.

PROGRAMS OF STUDY

Master Classes
» Dynamics through Breath
» Movement through Imagination
» Incorporates passages from Sokolow's choreography
(Time: 2 hours)

One Day Workshops
» Video lecture on Anna Sokolow's life
and the roots of modern dance
» Technique class (master class format)
» View Rooms with discussion to follow, and
work with the movement phrases to experience a
physical understanding of the work.
(Time: 5 hours)

One Week Workshops
» Daily video lecture series
ranging from Anna Sokolow's
life and the roots of modern
dance to Sokolow's choreography
and its relationship to the society
in which she lived.
» Technique class (master class format)
» Rooms Etude, a complete 6 minute
version of Anna Sokolow's masterwork, Rooms.
(Time: 25 hours)

Residencies

Residencies range from two weeks to one
semester. Elements of the residencies
can be chosen from the following:

» Technique Classes
» Video Lecture and Discussion
» Composition Classes
» Repertory Classes
» Reconstruction of a major Sokolow work

Jacksonville University, University of Alabama, Naugatuck Community College, University of Wisconsin, Limon Institute, National University of the Arts (Seoul), Institute del Teatre (Barcelona), and National Institute of the Arts (Taipei) are a few of the institutions which have
experienced the Sokolow legacy workshops
and residencies in recent years.
